Women’s and Gender Studies is the study of the human experience that places women and gender at the center of the analysis. It is an interdisciplinary field that draws from knowledge and expertise in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. It examines how gender inequality is built into social institutions and practices, envisions more egalitarian alternatives, and studies strategies of social change.

Why Study Women and Gender?

Women's and Gender Studies aspires to examine the complexities of women's experiences and the cultural impact of gender. With an emphasis on justice and empowerment, we look at the relationships between personal identity and social structures that affect how we experience gender, race, sexuality, disability and other differences. As many employers are now looking for job candidates who have thought deeply about issues of gender and discrimination and who exhibit strong critical thinking skills, these courses will prepare you for future success.

ΘνΓΓΙη’s Department of Women's and Gender Studies works to enhance communication between people of all genders and to prepare students for careers in advocacy, health care, education, business, journalism, law, social services, government, and the arts.
